Johannes Brömmel based in Vienna is a composer, born in Munich in 1999. He studied at the Mozarteum University with Reinhard Febel and Johannes Maria Staud and Achim Bornhöft. He also attended masterclasses with Salvatore Sciarrino, Chaya Chzaernowin, Eva Reiter, Francesco Filidei, Michael Jarrell and Matthew Shlomowitz, among others, and developed a wide-ranging interest in interdisciplinary work during his studies.
He writes and produces music for ensembles, theatre performances, electroacoustic and installation works, where text and voice often play a central role.
His pieces have been performed at various venues, including Kunstform Wien, KULTUM Graz, ORF-Studio Innsbruck and the Klangspuren Schwaz festival. He has collaborated with various ensembles such as the Riot Ensemble, NAMES (New Arts and Music Ensemble Salzburg), Trio Wirk-Werk, Les Métaboles, Ensemble Multilatéral, OENM (Austrian Ensemble for New Music) and others.
2024's play Penelope by director Giulia Giammona, in which he designed a 60-minute soundtrack, won the jury prize at the Körber Directing Festival at the Thalia-Theater in Hamburg. In 2024 was nominated for the OE1 Talent Young-Talent Composition Prize.
